Secretary-Treasurer Kim Guyett lives in Belton, MO with her two sons and nephew. Her two adult children and four grandchildren live out of state. She is proud to be the great granddaughter of David “Babe” Logan, the granddaughter of Jackie Logan Birdsong, and the daughter of Glenda Birdsong Barton. When she isn’t working hard bringing positive change to the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, she spends most of her time creating lasting memories with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

As a single mother of four, Ms. Guyett successfully ran her own business while putting herself through school. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s in Accounting and Financial Management shortly thereafter. Before joining the Business Committee (BC), she worked as a professional accountant for eleven years.

Ms. Guyett assumed the office of Secretary-Treasurer just under a year ago. She joined the Committee because she believes Seneca-Cayuga tribal members deserve a BC that addresses tribal member concerns, takes the time to listen to any and all questions, and makes decisions based on factual data.

Her three main objectives as Secretary-Treasurer include:

Finding a solution for the enrollment issues we’ve been experiencing over the last few years. Within her first four months of office, Ms. Guyett implemented a new enrollment process that helped 321 people join the Tribe, most of whom have been waiting several years.

Her second goal is to bring the Nation’s accounting services back “in-house.” This process is now in motion, having “staffed and trained our Accounting Department to ensure a successful transition within the next few months.”

Finally, Ms. Guyett has been making a conscious effort every day to increase communication and transparency to all tribal members. She aims to keep tribal members informed, answer every question she receives, and encourages everyone to get involved with input and questions.

In the coming year, Ms. Guyett is most excited about implementing technological upgrades across the Nation. “This new technology will increase the efficiency of our tribal government and all the programs within it.” These improvements will help us better serve our tribal members with increased communication and more self-involvement among members. She believes her duty first and foremost is the tribal members, and we must “make all efforts to better serve our members.”

She looks forward to the “increased self-sufficiency and growth of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation.” She believes the many great projects in the works “will increase the unity of our Nation and improve the efficiency of our government.” Ultimately, the goal is to have a lasting positive impact on the lives of our tribal members.

She and the rest of the business committee have done a great deal in a short time to gain the trust of tribal members. And she believes “the Seneca-Cayuga Nation can continue to heal and grow if we trust and support one another.”
