COVID-19 precautions are important!

COVID-19 has brought with it many challenges. Emotionally and physically, people are weary. Dealing with the uncertainty that lies ahead is a constant challenge. Within our country, state, tribe and local community. There are many voices sharing about what we should be doing as we see various parts of the economy opening and closing. All the while, keeping tabs on how we are doing with the health of our families and community.

Through all of this, we must remain strong, Drawing strength from the gratitude found in every day. Our gift of life, our loved ones and the positive potential of what lies ahead are examples of things that provide light and joy, even during times of great challenge.

Advancing the well-being of all Seneca-cayuga people is the purpose of our Nation. COVID-19 cases, as they continue to rise, pose real risk to our most vulnerable citizens. One of the best ways we can take care of one another is through preventative measures.

In order to keep ourselves, our families and our communities safe, please consider some of these best practices to prevent spread of the COVID-19 virus.

To prevent exposure:

  • Follow all current CDC guidelines which include wearing face coverings in public settings any time social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Stay safe at home when possible. People with underlying health conditions or those who are immunocompromised should be especially vigilant about staying home.
  • Avoid large gatherings of people. Indoor gatherings of people from different communities are events where spread is most likely.
  • Follow social distancing guidelines and leave 6 ft. of distance between yourself and others.
  • Clean and dis-infect all frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Continue healthy practices such as eating healthy foods, drinking water and managing stress.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Wash your hands immediately after coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid hugging or hand shaking upon meeting others.
  • Use technology to facilitate work meetings instead of face-face interaction. Services like Facetime, Zoom or JoinMe are popular alternatives.
  • Stay home if you feel sick, have a temperature or head cold.
  • Wash your hands often throughout the day
