Description: To provide temporary relief to eligible Tribal Members during a specific crisis and is not an entitlement nor recurring financial assistance program. Emergency financial assistance may be provided to an eligible Tribal Member during a crisis created by: a medical incapacity resulting in time off of a job without pay; a job layoff; a job closure; an act of nature resulting in damage to a home or major home appliance owned by a eligible Tribal Member; unsafe conditions in a home owned by an eligible Tribal Member such that the existing condition is a threat to the health and/or safety of the eligible Tribal Member.
Eligibility: Seneca-Cayuga Tribal Members only
Assistance or Amount Available:
Medical incapacity:
$500 – Self or Head of Household (Tribal Member)
$150 – Each Dependent (Tribal Member) living in household
$1000 – Additional catastrophic benefit paid if the eligible Tribal Member has been medically incapacitated and has had a total loss of income for sixty or more consecutive days prior to the date of application.
Job layoff:
$500 – Self or Head of Household (Tribal Member)
$150 – Each Dependent (Tribal Member) living in household
Job closure:
$500 – Self or Head of Household (Tribal Member)
$150 – Each Dependent (Tribal Member) living in household
Emergency Financial Assistance:
$250 – Self or Head of Household (Tribal Member)
$50 – Each Dependent (Tribal Member) living in household
Requirements: Application must be complete with the following documented items.
1. Completed Emergency Fund Application with Signature (Tribal Member)
2. Copy of Tribal membership card(s) for all Tribal members in household.
3. Written statement by Tribal Member describing emergency condition.
4. Copy of signed Physicians statement of incapacity to work.
5. Documentation certifying applicant is unemployed and loss of income for 30 days.
6. Documentation pertaining to the emergency
Assistance or Amount Available:
Act of Nature Damaging Major Household Appliance:
$1500 – Maximum payment paid for repair or replacement of major household appliances.
Requirements: Application must be complete with the following documented items.
1. Completed Emergency Fund Application with Signature (Tribal Member)
2. Copy of Tribal membership card(s) for all Tribal members in household.
3. Written statement by Tribal Member describing emergency condition.
4. Proof of ownership for claims to repair of home.
5. Professional Documentation of damage and cost for repair or replacement.
6. Documentation pertaining to the emergency
Assistance or Amount Available:
Emergency Assistance due to unsafe conditions in a home: $2500 – Maximum payment paid for reasonable cost of repair or replacement; if repair or replacement is covered by insurance, the amount of the insurance deductible not to exceed $2500.
*No Assistance provided on Rental Properties.
**5 year limitation on all types of Home Repair.
Requirements: Application must be complete with the following documented items.
1. Completed Emergency Fund Application with Signature (Tribal Member)
2. Copy of Tribal membership card(s) for all Tribal members in household.
3. Written statement by Tribal Member describing emergency condition.
4. Proof of Home ownership
5. Proof of Home owner Insurance claim
6. Professional Documentation of damage and cost for repair or replacement.
7. Documentation pertaining to the emergency
Assistance or Amount Available:
House payment, Rent past due:
$500 – Maximum House payment or Rent per month, limit 2 months per fiscal year. Not to exceed $1000.
Requirements: Application must be complete with the following documented items.
1. Completed Emergency Fund Application with Signature (Tribal Member)
2. Copy of Tribal membership card(s) for all Tribal members in household.
3. Proof of Home ownership, Rental or Lease Agreement
4. Written statement by Tribal Member describing emergency condition.
5. Notice of Past Due, Eviction or Notice to Quit.
Utility Assistance past due: – Limited to once per every 4 months not to exceed 3 times per fiscal year.
Requirements: Application must be complete with the following documented items.
1. Completed Emergency Assistance Application with Signature (Tribal Member)
2. Copy of Tribal membership card(s) for all Tribal members in household.
3. Written statement by Tribal Member describing emergency condition.
4. Notice of Past Due Statements or Shut off Notice
5. Billing Statements and or Notices must include Tribal Members name.
